Regulation will help private markets to become a really powerful equalizer in wealth outcomes; accessible not just to those with the deepest pockets, according to the latest podcast for FT Adviser Talking Point.
Speaking as a guest on the podcast, Leon Sinclair, an executive vice president at financial data company, Preqin, who leads the general partners business unit, said: “The scale of the private investable universe is tremendous, especially when you compare that to the public investable markets today and [the decline in the volume of listed companies] is well documented.
“Once [investors] get access to more parts of the economy, the private investable universe is going to be really critical to achieving that investment strategy.”
“With the right data, technology, oversight in the medium term, private capital markets could be a really powerful equalizer in wealth outcomes.”
“And all this is because of the regulatory regime, the technology regime, the data and technology which is being made available to investors, which makes it not just that an asset class for those with the deepest pockets.”
Sinclair went on to add that in the medium to long term he hoped this “confluence of factors, would lead to more opportunities for the average person to grow wealth.”
