At the start of the year, it was announced that a majority of the World Economic Forum’s Community of Chief Economists expected a global recession in 2023.
This was as a result of geopolitical tensions continuing to shape the global economy, and in anticipation of further monetary tightening in the United States and Europe.
Although inflation is generally declining now, economic headwinds persist globally.
The war in Ukraine continues, growth is slow in China and the Eurozone, fears of a US recession remain, while interest rates in the US and UK could yet go up again, after being frozen in September.
